Summer experience offers organisations the opportunity to recruit an undergraduate student into a six-week paid internship during the summer vacation period between May and September.
What is Summer Experience?
- A six-week project related experience, for a 1st or 2nd year undergraduate to work within your business, supported by the University
- A low risk, short term solution to drive a project forward
What do you need to do?
- Identify an internship opportunity within your business that could either be support for an ongoing project, or maybe a project that you haven’t had the resource to get off the ground yet
- Be available to interview and select your preferred candidate
- Assign somebody in the workplace to be the main point of contact and line manage the student whilst working with you and be the main contact for the University
How will the University support you?
- We will advertise your opportunities to a targeted student audience
- We will manage the shortlisting of your candidates and organise the interview process for you
- We will manage the contracting and payroll of the appointed student

Our students have excellent technical skills that could make a real impact on your organisation. Typical internship projects in previous years have included marketing, research, product development, social media, website design, youth work and many more.
How much will it cost?
- If you are a large organisation (with over 250 employees) it will cost only £2331 for 6 weeks of full time work
- If you are an SME (less than 250 employees) we fund 50% meaning the cost to you is £1165.00 for 6 weeks
- *Funded placements must be completed by the 31st July 2022
To celebrate the achievements of those involved in summer experience we invite you to our awards ceremony. This will be held at the end of summer here on campus. We invite placement students and host organisations to nominate to a number of categories. The winners are announced at the awards ceremony. This enjoyable event is a great way to recognise everyone’s participation in the summer experience programme.
