Keighley firm’s role in powering Heathrow Airport is showcased

A KEIGHLEY company’s contribution to powering the UK’s biggest airport has been showcased.

Byworth Boilers, based in Parkwood Street, has been supplying Heathrow for over two years with equipment and training.

More than 30 airport staff members have so far been trained by the firm, which supplies industrial steam and hot-water boilers.

Heathrow teamed up with manufacturers’ organisation Make UK to celebrate some of the 1,100 businesses across the country that form part of the airport’s direct supply chain.

Small and medium-sized enterprises account for 60 per cent of the supplier base.

Representatives were invited to attend an event at Make UK’s base in London where their support of Heathrow, which caters for over 80 million passengers a year, was spotlighted.

Nigel Milton, the airport’s chief communications and sustainability officer, says: “Small businesses up and down the country are vital to enable Heathrow to connect all of the UK to global markets.

“Each year we invest more than £1bn of private money into our nationwide supply chain. This continual investment supports national economic growth, making the UK more internationally competitive, and crucially helps sustain thousands of skilled jobs. With the expertise and support of suppliers, Heathrow provides passengers and exporters with the world’s best-connected airport.

“The supply chain spans critical sectors, from cutting-edge cybersecurity and digital infrastructure to advanced manufacturing. These products and services come from nations and regions across the UK.”

He adds: “Heathrow has just submitted its 2027-31 business plan to the regulator, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). The plan proposes £10bn of investment that will see new terminal space, 20 per cent more cargo capacity and an improved passenger experience. Once the plan is agreed with the CAA, further billions of pounds of private investment will begin flowing into the Heathrow supply chain, opening up opportunities for even more businesses across the UK.”

Byworth Boilers, founded more than half a century ago and now employing over 100 people, welcomes its association with the airport.

The company’s account manager, Mark Quainoo, says: “The opportunities from working with Heathrow have meant we are fortunate enough to support critical infrastructure, which has strengthened our reputation as a leading provider of industrial boiler solutions.”

Ben Fletcher, chief operating officer at Make UK, says: “Heathrow is one of the world’s greatest airports and global brands, and a national asset. Its investment in companies up and down the country demonstrates the domestic boost received from this hub airport, and we welcome Heathrow’s continued commitment to prioritise British manufacturing in its supply chain delivery.”
