A Yorkshire-based technology firm has secured a place on a major NATO accelerator programme.
Slipstream Engineering Design has been selected to join the Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA), an organisation established by NATO to find and accelerate dual-use innovation capacity across the alliance.
The company is one of just 150 selected from more than 3,600 applicants across the NATO alliance.
Dr Mike Roberts, technical director at Slipstream Design, said: “After a tough selection and interview process open to companies across many countries, it’s an enormous privilege to have been selected to join NATO’s DIANA accelerator.
“This will open significant opportunities to further demonstrate ASTRO’s capabilities and develop the next iteration of the technology.”
ASTRO is a high-performance software-defined radio tool designed to deliver resilient communications and sensing in congested electromagnetic environments.
Launched in 2024, it builds on Slipstream Design’s R&D work in radio processing, with a focus on modern battlefield and city environments.
The six-month accelerator programme begins in January 2026 and will give Slipstream access to test centres, end users and NATO defence expertise, and 100,000 euros in funding to further develop its high-performance software-defined radio platform, ASTRO, which combines both radar and communication modes.
