Bradford Learners Clear up at the Qube Awards

Grade 2 Ofsted rated learning provider Qube Learning hosted their annual awards ceremony in London on 16th May. Learners, employers and Qube employees flocked to Proud Embankment to celebrate some amazing achievements and success stories.

World Record breaking athlete Colin Jackson was on hand to dish out the awards for the second year running. The former Olympic sprinter enthused “I’m honoured to be hosting the Qube Learning awards. It’s a chance to applaud Apprentices, Trainees, Employers and Employees who work with them”

Home to the Kickstart Centre on Rawson Place, the city of Bradford shone on the night with huge success for our local learners. Bradford Bathroom’s Buffy Shiraishi scooped ‘Young Trainee of the Year’ beating some stiff competition. Buffy missed large chunks of her schooling, eventually leaving with no qualifications. Last Spring, feeling seriously unmotivated, she came to Qube for help. Over six months Buffy completed a Traineeship doing work experience in the hairdressing industry before finding her niche in business administration. Buffy worked hard on her Functional Skills achieving a Maths qualification and securing a Level 3 Business Admin Apprenticeship in the process. “Qube have literally saved my life, I’m so happy in my Apprenticeship and coming to the awards has been the icing on the cake”. Fellow Bradford Traineeship students Shane Deacon, Callum Crawford and Anne-Marie Winward all received ‘Highly Commended’ awards in their respective categories.

Bradford based Traineeship Tutor Amanda Belk won ‘Tutor of the Year’ with The Kickstart Centre’s Dawn Greenwood following on as runner up. An elated Amanda said “I love being a tutor as I feel that I am making a real difference to a young person’s life and helping them into a career. There are literally no words to describe how proud I am to be part of such an amazing team”.

Also in attendance were retail giants Matalan, The Entertainer and Peacocks amongst other High Street names and smaller independent businesses who have helped Qube turn around the lives of 100s of people over the last year alone. Qube work alongside employers who want to invest in people and in return the companies reap the rewards of having a highly trained staff force gaining meaningful qualifications.

The Kickstart Centre in the heart of Bradford’s city centre operates a drop-in service for those wanting advice on pre-employment programmes, Apprenticeships and Traineeships. Come in for some quality guidance and you might find yourself on the Steps to Success. Who knows, we might see you at the Qube Awards next year.
