A LOCAL brewery running the bar at the soon-to-open Darley Street Market has provided an exciting update.
The £30.9 million project, which has transformed a large area in Bradford city centre in desperate need of regeneration, has encountered various delays since plans got the go-ahead in 2019, but the open date is now rapidly approaching.
It was announced in May that the three-floor market and venue would officially open with a celebration weekend on Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13.
Bradford-born brewery, Northern Monk, was revealed to be opening a new bar in the market’s food court – on the top floor – in the same month.
The popular craft brewing business has played a key role in designing its bar space, which will feature 10 different taps that will be pouring the core range of beers, alongside rotating special releases.
It will also carry wines and spirits, as well as cocktails, mocktails, and a wide range of non-alcoholic and soft drinks.
Northern Monk provided an update this week on the progress of the bar, and it outlined that the “build is nearing completion”.
Robbie Mills, national bars operations manager at Northern Monk, said: “The anticipation is building as we prepare for our opening at Darley Street Market.
“We’ve been given a fantastic opportunity to custom-build our own bar within the venue.
“Drawing on 10 years of experience running our own establishments, we’ve applied valuable insights and innovative concepts to craft a truly functional space where quality and unparalleled service are central to its design.
“The build is nearing completion this week, and we’re eagerly looking forward to commissioning the draught system and pouring our very first pint.”
The post said: “Bradford has a special place in the history of Northern Monk and we’re stoked to be taking on the bar at the newly built Darley Street Market.
“The venue isn’t up and running just yet, but we want to bring you along on the journey.”
When the bar officially opens, alongside the market, it will be a full circle moment for Northern Monk.
It started life in a basement in Greengates 12 years ago this month, under current managing director Russell Bisset and co-founder David Bishop.
The business has rocketed to success since then, and the Darley Street Market bar joins Northern Monk’s recently announced York site and planned opening in Edinburgh, adding to their existing bar estate in Leeds and Manchester.
