City Regions Board members tour Shipley College during visit

National city leaders were welcomed to Bradford on Wednesday (June 18).

Members of the Local Government Association’s (LGA) City Regions Board paid a visit to the district to observe its efforts during the UK City of Culture year.

The visit, hosted by Bradford Council, included a trip on the Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture bus to Shipley College, in Saltaire, where board members toured the college’s immersive health learning facilities.

The college’s classrooms, which are equipped with “high-tech simulation environments,” are designed to help students to prepare for healthcare in the real world.

Board members also explored the college’s creative programmes and learned about ongoing investment in teacher training and technology.

Councillor Liam Robinson, leader of Liverpool City Council and chair of the LGA City Regions Board, said: “I was really pleased to join the leader of Bradford Council, councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, other city leaders, and Mayor Tracy Brabin to get a better understanding of what innovative steps Bradford is taking to boost skills and opportunity.”

The LGA City Regions Board represents the interests of the UK’s major city areas, and focuses on inclusive growth, transport, infrastructure, skills, and public service reform.
