Community projects completed with Transpennine Route Upgrade funding

Youth hubs, schools, and community centres are benefiting from the latest round of funding from a railway company.

The support comes from the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) Community Fund, which aims to improve facilities along the 70-mile rail corridor.

A total of 35 organisations received grants in 2025, with several now completing their projects.

Anna Humphires, TRU head of sustainability and social value, said: “The TRU Community Fund gives us the chance to leave a lasting legacy in the area we serve as a programme, but away from the tracks.

“I’m delighted to see the progress being made by a number of last year’s successful recipients and the positive impact they are having on their communities.

“We’re looking forward to launching our third iteration this year and seeing new organisations from across our route realise the benefits of this initiative.”

In Huddersfield, Rise in Unity has unveiled a new kitchen and dining area at its youth hub, thanks to £10,000 in funding.

Monk Fryston School in Leeds used the grant to install a bike shelter, promoting safer, greener travel for pupils.
