Over 400 fire call outs in West Yorkshire in 2020 so far

THE REGION’s fire service has told of its “busy start” to 2020 after dealing with more than 400 incidents over the first week.

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue service has received “hundreds of calls” in the past 8 days.

One of the most dramatic call-outs came on Monday when emergency services rescued a trapped driver from their car in Bingley.

Fire crews from Shipley and Bingley helped free the motorist before those involved were taken to hospital by ambulance.

The drivers of a grey Skoda Superb and a blue Citroen ES3 escaped with minor injuries.

Meanwhile crews from Shipley and Bradford attended a blaze at a derelict house in Manningham.

Mornington Villas, a two-storey property, was 15 per cent covered in flames on the first floor on New Year’s Day.

Crews used two hose reels, four breathing apparatus and a high powered fan to clear the property of smoke.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue: “We’re already over a week into the new year. And it’s been a busy start for us in 2020.

“We’ve taken hundreds of calls & already attended over incidents since 1st January.”
