Saltaire Makers Fair to go ahead at Victoria…

Saltaire Makers Fair to go ahead at Victoria Hall this weekend

ONE of the biggest annual events in a Bradford district village will still go ahead this weekend.

Saltaire Makers Fair will be held at Victoria Hall on Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18.

The event is organised by Saltaire Inspired, and is independent of Saltaire Festival, which has been postponed until later this month following the period of national mourning following the death of Her Majesty, The Queen.

A book of condolence will be open through the Makers Fair for visitors to leave their written tributes to the Queen.

Julia Calver, Saltaire Inspired chair, said: “We are deeply saddened at the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, and our thoughts and condolences are with the Royal Family at this time.

“In accordance with government guidelines, our Saltaire Makers Fair will go ahead this weekend, in Victoria Hall.

“A book of condolence is open at Victoria Hall and will remain open for visitors to sign throughout the weekend.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors and to enjoying Saltaire Festival’s rescheduled events programme towards the end of the month and into October.”

Victoria Hall will be filled with 46 top designer-makers from across the UK, showcasing a range of high quality, skilfully handmade contemporary craft and design that you won’t find on the high street.

Regular visitors to the Saltaire Makers Fairs (held in May at the Saltaire Arts Trail, and in the Autumn) will know that while some of the exhibitors will be familiar faces, organisers Saltaire Inspired make sure that each event includes new designer-makers and fresh ideas by working with a panel of independent curators to select the exhibitors for each event.

The Saltaire Makers Fair offers a unique shopping experience with the opportunity to chat to the makers themselves, watch demonstrations and feast your eyes on captivating ceramics, irresistible jewellery, sumptuous textiles, masterful original printmaking, stylish homewares and lots more. This is your chance to browse, buy or even commission something special for yourself or as a gift.

Sunday will see the return of the popular art tombola, with the chance to win some stunning prizes donated by exhibitors, and there will also be the chance (on both days) to stock up on this year’s new set of Saltaire Living Advent Calendar Christmas Cards.

The Saltaire Makers Fair is open from 11am to 5pm on Saturday, September 17 and between 10am and 5pm on the following day. Entry is £2 (under-16s free).
