Yorkshire vaping firm calls for crackdown on rule-breaking manufacturers

A West Yorkshire vaping retailer has called for tougher action after a Government minister acknowledged some products are being deliberately designed to evade UK regulations.

Following comments made by health minister Baroness Merron during the Report Stage of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill in the House of Lords, VPZ, a specialist vape retailer, says it is seeking clarity on enforcement steps.

Baroness Merron said certain manufacturers are developing devices that circumvent existing rules.

Jamie Strachan, operations director at VPZ, said: “If Ministers are openly acknowledging in Parliament that manufacturers are designing products to circumvent UK regulations, the obvious question is: why are they not acting to stop it?

“The limits on tank and refill sizes are clearly set out in law.

He added: “The Government should move swiftly to close the loophole and ban these devices outright.”

Current UK regulations limit vape tanks to two millilitres and refill containers to 10 millilitres.

However, some manufacturers are creating devices that can attach multiple refill containers, effectively bypassing these restrictions.

Many of these products, while marketed as reusable, are often used once and discarded.

VPZ says this undermines the goals of the disposable vape ban introduced last summer.
