A BRADFORD company is expanding into a huge, new build unit in one of the city’s Enterprise Zones.
Thermocable is currently based on Pasture Lane in Clayton, but will make the move to Leftfield Park, a modern business estate off Gain Lane in Thornbury.
The company has signed a 10-year lease for the unit on the site, joining companies like Astonish and Optimum Medical.
Thermocable says the move is needed to help the businesses’ growth plans.
Leftfield Park is one of a series of Enterprise Zones that were funded by West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
The zones were set up to create new employment sites on long empty areas of land.
The Gain Lane site had been marketed as employment land since the early 1990s, but had attracted little interest.
In 2019 WYCA agreed to provide almost £10m to “unlock” the site – creating a new access road and preparing the site for development.
After the funding was granted, WYCA officers said the site, to be made up of eight large units, was likely to be completed by 2025.
With Thermocable moving to the site, there is now just one 52,000 square foot unit remaining on Leftfield Park.
The company was founded in 1963 as a manufacturer of heating cables for the refrigeration and electric blanket markets.
It has since become the world leading manufacturer of linear detection cable and monitoring systems.
The company will move into Unit A, which has 39,435 sq ft of ground floor warehouse space and a 905 sq ft reception with 1,762 sq ft of office accommodation to the first floor.
The move is expected to create a number of jobs at the company.
A release announcing the move said: “With headcount and technology continuing to grow rapidly, the space is much needed as part of the company’s continued growth strategy.”
Alice Ham, General Manager, Thermocable said: “We are so proud of how much we have grown over the last couple of years, and taking this next step in our journey is a huge milestone. The dedication and commitment the Thermocable team has to continue to innovate, grow and work smarter is incredible.
“This office and warehouse space will enable us to continue with our 10 year growth plan without the need to scrimp on space, or worry about new equipment and recruitment. We are excited to continue to boost Bradford’s economy, bridge industry skills gaps, and continue to raise the bar in manufacturing excellence and fire safety.”
